Sushil Kumar and Michael Phelps

The Wrestler Rises: Sushil Kumar 

Sushil Kumar was an Indian Wrestler once. Now he is the World Champion Wrestler. Recently he won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics in Men's 66kg freestyle wrestling.

 But what paths did he come across before reaching this stage of world champion?

Sushil Kumar's father, Diwan Singh, was a DTC bus driver and mother was a housewife. So he was not that child who was born and brought up in the bed of pearls. 

He was inspired to take up wrestling by his father and cousin. His cousin has to leave wrestling and come to support the family income. 

Sushil underwent tough training conditions which started from the age of 14. In the training he shared a mattress with a fellow wrestler and a dormitory with 20 others. But as it is said, "A diamond is a chunk of coal that is made good under pressure.". Similarly Sushil Kumar shines out and made India proud

In the 2008 Olympics he lost in the first place but later cleared 2 Repechage ( a second chance basically) and then defeated Spiridonov in three rounds.

Among his other most prestigious winnings, he has won a Gold medal in the World Championship in 2010, in Common wealth games 2010, in Asian games 2010.

Overall, Sushil Kumar has won 7 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals for India in Men's freestyle Wrestling.

Sushil Kumar made India proud.!

Phelps Bids Adieu

The boy from Baltimore who set out to redefine the boundaries of his sport, wades good bye to swimming after winning twice as many Olympic titles as any other athlete in modern times.

Phelps was diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD causes lack of attention, impulsive behaviour and hyperactivity) when he was in sixth grade. 

He was a dreamer. He believed that "Nothing is impossible". After he saw swimmers Tom Malchow and Tom Dolan compete at the 1996 SUmmer Games in Atlanta, Phelps began to dream of becoming a champion. He met his coach who immediately recognized Phelps talents and fierce sense of competition. Phelps is great at butterfly style.

Michael, at the age of 15, became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic Games in 68 years.

He has won so many Awards and have broken so many Records, that remembering each and every one of them will be a record (which only Phleps can break).

But I will like to tell you that at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he won eight medals (out of which six were Gold medals) tying with soviet gymnast Aleksandr Dityatin for the most medals in a single Olympic.

Phelps philanthropy acts includes a non-profit organization, Swim with the stars, which he co-founded to hold camps for swimmers of all ages. He has also written books about his life and his strive for success.

The most accomplished all-round male swimmer ever retires and want to explore more from his life

Manish Soni

The Pink city resident Manish Soni was working in his family business when he saw the movie "3 Idiots" which changed his way of looking into things in life. He could earn a little money from working, but as they say knowledge is wealth, he was willing to take in more knowledge and be a wise man. But his father did not want the same for his son and brought him to business to support their family which comprises of 35 members.

Manish, his 5 sisters and parents had only two rooms to share among each other. When Manish was married, it became hard for the bride to live in such a crowded place. She left for her father's house in two-three months. Now Manish was determined to earn enough to have a new home and fulfill his wife's demand.

Manish surely had a lot of talents. One of them is speaking in the voice similar to Donald Duck's. And believe me, it is as same as Donald use to say.

He completed one of his targets, to participate in KBC serial (Kaun Banega Crorepati), with the help of his friend who supported him financially. I hope the amount he withdrew from KBC (Rs.1,60,000) would help him complete his dream. And also, Manish's father might allow him to do whatever he wants to do in life.


A young and determined boy, just like Manish, might be the character around you.
