The back and forth life of Nehalata

The most astonishing performance by Sridevi ji ever, was her character Nehalata from the movie Sadma. Nehalata was a young and modern girl who loved picnic and party kind of stuff. She is that common girl who wants to enjoy her life and make the most out of it. But the fate did not approve so.

Nehalata, because of an accident, now has a mind of the level of an 8year old child. She does not speak in the way a mature person does. She is scared, much like a kid, when introduced to new surroundings.
Now her lifestyle is different. She does not dress up and go out in a car, but rather roam about in nearby park playing with street dogs or trying to fly the kite. Nehalata will mock you and also laugh on your stupid acts. But if she gets upset, you have to become a monkey to cheer her up.
This innocent girl is again learning all the basic things which she did in her childhood. So she is making all those mistakes a child of that age make. That includes silly mistakes and dropping stuff from hands.

When Nehalata is finally back to her normal self after a treatment from a medical practitioner, she remembers everything before the accident took place. Now again she is as mature as she was in the first place. And naturally she wants to return back to her past life. She does not remember the affection given by Somu and wants to go away from
him when he has come to talkto her. This is not her fault actually. If she cannot recall
the love, there is no chance she will love back.

Rain Man

Raymond (Rain Man) is the older autistic-savant brother of character Charlie Babbitt . The character of Raymond is inspired from the real life savant, Kim Peek.

When Charlie was too young to speak clearly, he couldn't pronounce Raymond but call out Rain Man instead. It was Raymond who sang to Charlie, but when Raymond burnt Charlie with hot bathing water their father decided to send Raymond to Wallbrook.

"Raymond has a problem communicating and learning. He can't even express himself or probably even understand his own emotions in a traditional way. There are dangers everywhere for Raymond. Routines, rituals are all he has to protect himself. [...] Well, it's the way he acts, sleeps, eats, uses the bathroom, walks, talks, everything. Any break from that routine is terrifying. [...] He doesn't understand the concept of money."

This genius who could solve most complicated calculation problems and memorize entire phone directories, was being left to stay in a psychiatric Institution for 20 years. It is only after when Charlie got him out of the Institution he was able to see the new world.

He had a very stringent routine. His bedtime is at 11pm sharp.
He is obsessed with few habits. Pancakes being placed on the table before the maple syrup is one of them. He gives a definite NO for travelling in the airplane and can do whatever it takes to stop you from making him believe otherwise. (Be it panicking)

A very kind hearted Rain Man is forced to go back to Wallbrook for his custody still belongs to that place.
But over his journey with Charlie, both the siblings come emotionally closer to each other.

Here is a short video of this character:
